The Rat and the Ox

Happy New Year!

…And before you know it, we will be wishing you again. Happy Chinese New Year this time.

We are progressing from the final days of the Rat to the new horizon of the Ox. And similarly, we are in the final stages in the completion of our musical project entitled the Year of the Rat even as we approach the year of the Ox. Confusing ain’t it? Anyway, you can read more bout it in Recording the Rat the Tale of the Rat and Year of the Rat.

The situation has morphed from the time of those three entries to its recent form, and yes, though I regret it could not meet the Year of the Rat deadline, I am proud that the end is finally in sight and you will soon get to hear it. We will be releasing 2 songs first after Chinese New Year, Left Behind by Fazly and Happy Birthday by Jude. (Not sure whether Jude still wants to call it Happy Birthday though – will leave that part to him since it is his song)

Due to the delay, I don’t think it makes sense to call it the Year of the Rat anymore. I’m thinking, the Rat and the Ox…or…The Ox, the Rat and the Pig since the original idea was actually conceived in 07. Hmmm…any suggestions?

During the school holidays of December 08, we recorded Jude and Fazly’s vocals for Happy Birthday and Left Behind respectively as well as Fazly’s guitar solo and overdubs for both songs. We also did Afendi’s solo for Onion Rings, which will be slated for later release.

Arrangements have been made to mix the 2 songs next Friday (16/1/09) at Standing Wave, and realistically I think it will take 3 sessions (…or even more) to achieve the final mix. So that’s why it’s gotta be after the New Chinese Year. Well at least I’m only 1 year behind schedule compared to Axl Rose’s new Guns N Roses album, Chinese Democracy, which took a stupendous 15 years! Hehe.
