2 Months: Learn to play an instrument (guitar, drums, bass, keyboard)

From experience, we know that a student can play an instrument in 2 months, not professionally, but he or she will be able to understand and play the basics and apply their new found skills to songs.

Learn to sing

Ok, we don’t promise that everybody can sing in 2 months, but even those that are tone deaf can in 6 months if they put their heart in to it. It’s really fun when you can sing those favourite songs of yours.

4 Months: Play in a band

Playing an instrument alone in your room only makes half-sense. The other half comes when you can jam on your instrument with others who share your musical passion in a band. When a drummer, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and singer meet, you will understand music and the instruments better, and your progress will accelerate.

6 Months: Perform on stage

This is the highlight of all your practices, when you get to show off. Going on stage builds your confidence tremendously in both music and life, and though some students are apprehensive about performing initially, they get addicted to it later and can’t wait for the next show. And honestly, 6 months is a long time to play your first public performance, we have thrown students up there in 1!

1 year: Write your own songs

Yer in a band, you perform…what’s next? You write your own stuff. From all your countless jamming, a musical idea will blossom. Guitarist gets riff, bassist gets a line from it, drummer is inspired to a beat, keyboard comes up with an accompaniment and singer starts humming some melody. Along the way someone in the band just got dumped…and lyrics bout rotten lovers are penned. And ok, we do guide you musically along the way.

Release and market your music

So, you have a bunch of songs now, your band plays regularly, people know you, yer some semi-rockstar. Time to record your materials. Yer at the last leg of your journey, and we’re still with you. Yer no more just our student, yer an artiste, and we can work together to get your works of art out there for public consumption. Dreams meet at Rock City School of Music, and they become a reality.
