Roger Choy

Roger Choy is a construction site supervisor who enjoys music cos it makes him confident and happy. Of all the instruments he prefers guitar and the reason he likes learning the guitar is because he wants to play in a band.

At Rock City, he is improving his guitar skills. Roger can already play before he joined the school but felt that he was not improving and he was going nowhere in his playing. In fact he felt like giving up music altogether. That was until he attended the Rock City Blazing Guitar Challenge at Sungei Wang plaza. Seeing all that shredding sparked new inspiration in him, which made him decide to give guitar lessons one last go. And he’s glad he did.

In less than 2 months he feels that he is improving in his guitar skills, especially in the knowledge of various scales and how to combine them in a chord progression to create exciting melodies and complex solos. His technique is also developing and as such his execution of the notes and the control of his tone are getting smoother. On top of that, his ear has improved. Now he can just listen to a song and pick up the chords and rhythm.

Roger is always looking forward to the next performance organized by Rock City so that he can perform on stage. He hopes to make music that will be excellent for the listening pleasure of the public. Ultimately, he would like to be able to play like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, and the only way he knows he can achieve it is to learn and practice more as well as take the opportunity to jam with the other students of Rock City during the weekly band sessions.
